I am unsure how to address the 'Conversations With God" books. I think the author is just as valid in belief and assertion that he as spoken with God as any other Prophet who ever wrote down a scripture. I don't say that as a compliment however. He does make an interesting point when he straight up asks 'God' how he can know whether he's really having the conversation or simply losing his mind. 'God' says that the question is irrelevant and impossible to answer, rather 'God' suggests that Walsh ask himself (and that by association the read should ask as well) whether what has been said was useful. By that benchmark, I found that the first book bears up, just barely. Out of all the new age woo that I read as a young man; this is one of the very few that hasn't lost all value to me in the years that followed. The same cannot be said for the movie (although it's interesting) or the second and third books in the series. But hey, that's still better than a lot of other new age rubbish I read back in the day.
