I like Roald Dahl as an author. He has some wacky stuff and a great imagination. But I don't like everything he's written and this is one of them. Basically this is a story about an evil crocodile who wants to eat "juicy little children." On his way to hunt down a child to eat, he is mean to all the animals in the jungle he encounters. Then he tries his tricks to capture a child. The other animals stop him by telling the children to run. In the end, the elephant throws the crocodile into the sun. This book is advertised for grades 1-3. I find the subject matter to be too violent and frightening for a first or even second grader. There is meanness and violence throughout the book. The thought of the croc wanting to eat a juicy little child was disgusting. I was hoping the croc would learn a lesson, but instead he gets the "death penalty." I found no moral value to this book. Would I recommend this book? NO
