THE PREVIOUS USER (kesha1123) COMMENT IS RIGHT. It's dreadful. The idea of the novel (background on Leck) and the other topics broached in this novel (love vs friendship, contraception, etc.) are great...UNHEARD OF in YA novels really, but the execution is booooring. It is not the narrator's fault IMO. Actually she did her best to make it lively with a cute British accent despite the long BORING succession of events, the ÜBER PASSIVE heroine, the interesting reveals being dragged and delayed to a non existent suspense. It almost makes me wonder : who wrote the marvel that is Graceling (1st book)? There is some action but like many YA authors after their debut novel, Kristin Cashore seemed to have devolved into romance miasma instead of keeping it relevant and contained within the overall story. A shame really because I really REALLY enjoyed the first book.
