Blackwell North Amer
It's January 1958 - a dark hour in the Cold War, and the early dawn of the space race. At Cape Canaveral, a countdown has begun. On launch pad 26B sits Explorer I, America's best hope to match the Soviet Sputnik and regain the lead in the contest for the skies above.
Caught in this mighty struggle between the superpowers are four old friends from Harvard. Bound together by the past and separated by war, each knows that Explorer's failure to be anything less than a triumphant success would have disastrous consequences for the United States. And as Luke Lucas starts to unravel the mystery of his amnesia and relearn the story of his life, his desperate search leads him back to his Harvard friends: to his wife, to his best friend, to the woman he once loved more than life itself ... and to the realization that his fate is tied to the rocket that stands ready at the Cape. For Luke knew something that someone deliberately wanted him to forget, and unless he is able to discover his own terrible, deadly secret, Luke may be left powerless to save the launch of Explorer - and with it, America's future.

For sure, Follett is one of those contemporary writers who can pull it all off; who can write a clever novel of intrigue that rivets you to the page and makes you turn it as fast as you can. Both poignant and shocking, the tale is about the mayhem of the CIA and a man who was made to lose his memory. Riveting reading. For sure.

Fascinating premise of a man who awakens with no memory of who he is. He figures out what kind of person he is by reading non-fiction to see what he finds easy. Along with the study of memory types, the book has a tense showdown between those who want to destroy a rocket and those who want to save it.

A man wakes up to find himself lying on the ground in a railway station, his mind stripped bare of all recollection. He has no idea how he got there; he does not even know his own name. Convinced he is a drunken down and out, it isn't until a newspaper report about a satellite launch catches his eye that he suspects all is not what it seems...

The year is 1958, and America is about to launch its first satellite in a desperate attempt to match the Soviet Sputnik and regain the lead in the space race. As Luke Lucas gradually unravels the mystery of his amnesia, he realizes that his fate is bound up with that of the rocket that stands ready on launch pad 26B at Cape Canaveral.

And as he relearns the story of his life, he uncovers long-kept secrets about his wife, his best friend and the woman he once loved more than life itself...

Code to Zero deals with one of the most ruthlessly contested arenas of the Cold War. Deceit and betrayal, love and trust interweave at the most political and personal levels, while the spectre of mind-control hovers constantly above. Each second brings destruction closer...
