A great novel, it's well written and well conceived; I completely understand why it's been seen as one of the truest depiction of war in literature. Not much time is wasted on the battlefields, instead; the plot line gravitates around one of Bulgakov's favourite theme: Courage. Bulgakov displays greats skills in outlining the humanity of characters whom don't really have much understanding of the far ranging effects about to unravel around them. What's left is the true nature of his characters. I recommend it.
