This is one of a series of reports on the state of the US budget and economy that the Office is required to submit to appropriate committees periodically. Separate chapters project the budget, economy, spending and revenue for the ten years. The summary predicts that after three years of declining budget deficits, a slowing economy will contribute to an increase in the deficit in 2008. Then the deficit will fall, and after 2012 level off for the period, but that does not mean the US economy is fundamentally sound. All of their projections are based on current laws and policies continuing throughout the period; any additional funding, for example to pursue wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, could further increase the deficit.
