Jacobson (manufacturing technology, Buckinghamshire Chilterns U. College) and metallurgist Humpstead have updated their 1993 Principles of Soldering and Brazing with two volumes, each devoted to one of the two very similar metal joining technologies, the rationale being that engineers tend to deal with one or the other, but rarely both at the same time. They primarily aim to provide practical information for practitioners, but also offer a scientific perspective. Two areas that have benefited from significant research in the past decade, active brazing and diffusion brazing, they have been directly involved with, and so describe in considerable detail.
