Offered in 0 more formatsDespite its Finnish accent, this yearbook published in association with the Ius Gentium International Law Association has universal relevance. Koskenniemi (international law, U. of Helsinki) introduces the volume's 21 contributions by justifying why it begins with several presentations drawn from a recent symposium on law and anthropology. Both disciplines, as the forum's subtitle reads, are based on "an interrelationship of [cultural] fantasies and utopias." Articles treat deconstructionist ideas informing the philosophy of international law and applications of its rules to such cases as threats to freedom of expression in Turkey and the abuses at Abu Ghraib. The volume, which also includes books reviews, review articles, and relevant new Finnish doctoral dissertations, lacks an index. Martinus-Nijhoff is an imprint of Brill.
