"Philanthropy has long been a distinctive feature of American culture, but its crucial role in the economic well-being of the nation--and the world--has remained largely unexplored. Why Philanthropy Matters takes an in-depth look at philanthropy as an underappreciated force in capitalism, measures its critical influence on the free-market system, and demonstrates how American philanthropy could serve as a model for the productive reinvestment of wealth in other countries. Factoring in philanthropic cycles that help balance the economy, Zoltan Acs offers a richer picture of capitalism, and a more accurate backdrop for considering policies that would promote the capitalist system for the good of all."--Publisher's description.

Wright Patman's congressional studies on Foundations and Trusts. Ferdinand Lundberg's book on the Rich and the Super-Rich, Foundations of the American Century, by Inderjeet Parmar. Read these before you read this. Astor stole so much from the poor, then his wife creates a foundation to help the poor? Oh yeah? Gates Foundation promotes the spread of GMOs, charter schools and more mining of coltan in the Congo. If Warren Buffet paid his taxes, the sum would be far, far greater than anything philanthropic he's done! [The premise of this author reminds me of when some Roman Empire officers rebelled against their emporer while in a far off town, the villagers fought and killed the rebels, but since it was an offense to harm a Roman citizen, Rome declared all the villagers should be put to death.]
