Private detective/wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden is suckered into tangling in the affairs of Faerie, where the fate of the entire world-and his soul-are at stake.

Baker & Taylor
Despondent over the loss of his vampire girlfriend, private detective and wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden undertakes a mission for the Winter Queen of Faerie to find out who murdered the Summer Queen's right-hand man, the Summer Knight, and clear the Winter Queen of the crime.

Blackwell North Amer
Harry Dresden's faced some pretty terrifying foes during his career. Giant scorpions. Oversexed vampires. Psychotic werewolves. All par for the course for Chicagos only professional wizard.
But in all Harry's years of supernatural sleuthing, he's never faced anything like this: the spirit world's gone completely postal. All over Chicago, ghosts are causing trouble - and not just of the door-slamming, boo-shouting variety. These ghosts are tormented, violent, and deadly.
Someone - or something - is stirring them up to wreak unearthly havoc. But why? And why do so many of the victims have ties to Harry? If Harry doesn't figure it out soon, he could wind up a ghost himself.

The fourth book in the best-selling series featuring Chicago’s only professional wizard and supernatural sleuth, Harry Dresden, has Harry investigating excessive turbulence in the spirit world, after discovering that many of the recent victims have ties to him. Reprint.

I love this series – good, light, fantasy reads, with strong characters and enough intriguing over-arching plots to keep me sucked in.

Fans of Harry Dresden will not be disappointed by this fourth book in the series. This had all of the wit, magic, and mystery that I have come to expect from the Dresden Files series, and I enjoyed Butcher's take on the Faerie Courts. I also appreciated the return of some supporting characters from earlier novels--Billy and the werewolves and Toot, especially--and I love how Harry continues to develop as a character.

3 1/2 stars (Though if you're on book four of the series you might round up as you obviously like it). Like an old pair of jeans - comfortable but not flashy. Plot is the same as the first three books: Dresden bumbles into more trouble than he can handle but he can't say no when a dame is in distress. Mike Hammer meets Merlin. A page turner / quick read.

I normally don't like first person perspectives, but Harry's world and mind are brilliant to be in! He has the kind of wit I always wished I had.
Jim Butcher knows how to use his characters and isn't afraid to push them to their breaking points. Things never are dull and situations always escalate for Harry and his companions.
My only complaint is that none of this is real. Bummer.

I was very pleased with this entire novel. I loved it from beginning to end. It started getting better with the last one and I believe the storyline and Sidhe conflict was interesting seeing as how before this novel I never read anything specifically involving the world of Faerie Perhaps in the Shannara novels up to a point. Dresden continues to convince me there can be such a thing as extremely sarcastic wizard.

No, its right. Grave Peril is the one where " The spirit world has gone postal. All over Chicago, ghosts are causing trouble -- and not just of the door-slamming, boo-shouting variety. These ghosts are tormented, violent, and deadly."
