"Larger-than-life Tiny Cooper finally gets to tell his story, from his fabulous birth and childhood to his quest for true love and his infamous parade of ex-boyfriends, in the form of a musical he wrote"--
A spinoff of Levithan and John Green's novel Will Grayson, Will Grayson, Hold Me Closer (you do not need to read Will Grayson, Will Grayson to understand the book; it fits amazingly as a stand-alone work) is one of the most original teen fiction books to come out recently. The story of Tiny Cooper's - the larger-than-life protagonist in both size and personality - upbringing and many failed romances takes place in the form of a script for a musical that Tiny wrote himself. Expertly written by Levithan, the songs and Tiny's commentary are witty, hilarious, and do indeed rhyme. On further glance, however, the book is also touching and heartfelt, diving into the pain hidden under Tiny's flamboyant personality. And a bonus, being a book about a musical, the book has more references to theatre and musicals than I could count, and will be sure to please thespians, fans of Will Grayson, Will Grayson, or those who are picking it up as a stand-alone novel.

Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story is a nice addendum to Will Grayson, Will Grayson. This time readers get to read the play written by Will Grayson's best friend. Tiny Cooper is a memorable character, and his musical is an entertaining and heartfelt look at his life.

This is the perfect follow-up to Will Grayson, Will Grayson. (And yes, you really do need to read WG,WG first.)
