Thomas wakes up in an elevator, with no memories other than that of his name. When the elevator reaches the surface, he finds out about the Glade, a place that is like Earth. At one end of the Glade is a maze, which is rumored to have a way out of the Glade and back to the real world. When one day, a girl comes into the Glade with a threat in the elevator with her, the urgency to find this exit becomes a matter of life and death for the Glade’s residents.

This book is similar to the Hunger Games series, in that the theme is survival. It starts off a bit slow, but begins becoming more and more faster paced as the book goes on. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a sci-fi book to read.

The Maze Runner is the first book in the Maze Runner series. It's okay like it starts off slow but it gets better near the end. It's just not my favorite book in the series.

Really nice read, but it is also set in a really fictional world. It may be difficult to come back to reality after delving into this world. A lot of action and suspense warranted it a place on the New York Times bestselling novels list. The Glade is described so well, and so are the other kids’ reactions and situations, that it almost feels as if the reader is in those situations. Every mini plot and story, as well as most events, connect together to form a smooth plot that fits well with the dystopian science fiction genre. The characters are so realistic - every reader can almost be a character working with the main character, Thomas, to solve the maze. If you want to distance yourself from reality and experience a fantastical world, but one worth observing, I encourage you to read this novel and the rest of the series.

This series is truly a masterpiece. I watched the movie first and then after realizing it was a book immediately read it, I really enjoyed it and I am considering buying the series. Thomas wakes up in a small clearing surrounded by a large, intricate, ever changing maze. Every boy in the maze has no memory of why they are there. Who they were. And how to escape. With deadly creatures stalking them at night and getting no closer ton escaping than they were years ago the boys are desperate for clues. And when a GIRL appears in the maze instead of a boy their tiny society inside the maze is flipped upside down as a complicated conspiracy is revealed. And it all centers around Thomas's past. 13+

Thomas wakes up in an unknown world called the Glade with several other boys.
Everyone’s memories are gone, including his own. Outside the Glade is a maze. No one has
made it to the end of the maze alive, but it’s the key to escaping this world. Then a girl comes to the Glade. No girl has ever entered the Glade before. The arrival of the girl changes the entire Glade and everyone within it. Thomas and the others try to make their way out of the maze.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner. It is a good Sci-Fi/Dystopian novel for young adults
readers. If you were a fan of the Hunger Games series, you’ll love this book. The book has a
great overarching theme of survival. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is interested in
Sci-Fi books or survival storylines. Overall, it’s a good read.

Thomas wakes up in a box and he can only remember his name. He has been transported to the Glade. Outside the stone walls that surround the Glade is an unsolvable, infinite, ever-changing maze. No one has ever gotten out. This book is slow at first, but once the story starts to escalate the nail-biting plot will overwhelm you. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a sci-fi thriller that won't disappoint.

The Maze Runner is a very exciting book written by James Dashner. It is about a bunch of kids stranded in a strange place called the ‘Glade.’Around the glade, there are massive walls that within them is a maze. The kids need to find an escape within the maze but there are harmful creatures within it as well. The book is very action-packed as a lot of the pages had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. I really enjoyed this book as for the most part I was always intrigued and willing to continue reading. Furthermore, the characters are all really interesting and some of them even provide much needed comic relief. This book is perfect for young adults as the story is easy to understand and the plot is very exhilarating. However, the beginning is a little dry. All in all, The Maze Runner is a fantastic read and if you decide to pick it up, you will not want to put it down! I rate the book a 4.5/5 @JamesDashnerd of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

The Maze Runner is set in a maze as you might guess but getting lost isn’t the biggest problem, it’s the monsters that lurk around at night and threaten everyone’s lives. Despite the danger that surrounds them I found I loved how daring the main character, Thomas, is. He actually risks his life very early on in the book just to help out a friend. I like wholesome characters like this who always do the right thing even in the face of danger. You’ll certainly enjoy this novel if you love page turners and lots of dramatic actions scenes. I recommend it especially to young readers as I read these in late elementary school and couldn’t get enough! 3/5 stars

The novel has the similar sci-fi theme as The Hunger Games. A main character who is trying to change the world and a trilogy of young-adult dystopian novels. The first novel is violent, but has few violent parts, I would say about four. The main character is called Thomas who proves to be brave and that he is loyal and clever. Thomas shows this through his antics of getting through the maze and trying to get out as soon as he can. Thomas shows that he is a true leader and will work to prove that he is. The other characters Newt, Teressa, Minho, Gally, and Chuck are a very interesting group of characters that all have different goals and points to the story. Gally, who is jealous of Thomas and doesn't trust him, becomes the very one to betray. The author worked more plot than characters. I would give this novel 6 out of 10 stars. I didn't really get to care about the characters. I cared more about the story.

This book was in a genre I normally do not read. I have to admit that I enjoyed the fast pace and the surprise ending.

Not much to say about this middle of the road, YA dystopian. It feels a bit like The Hunger Games with a bit of Divergent tossed in. The idea of it is interesting, if a bit unoriginal- a group of kids are placed in the center of a maze and tasked to find a way out. The fact that the walls move every night, and they're being watched, and there are giant monsters that can kill them or inject them with poison throws an intriguing wrench in the mix. The chapters are short enough that it keeps you reading to find out what happens next. The characters are rather bland or one-note, with the exception of Newt. The withholding of information never drew me in as a reader- it actually frustrates me. I don't see why the author felt the need to tell the story this way. It feels unnecessarily drawn out and serves only to pad the pages of the book. I'm thinking I will check out the next novel, as we're left with a bit of a cliffhanger here. The Maze Runner is interesting and entertaining, but only on the surface. There's really nothing deep here, just a fun apocalyptic romp through a puzzle.

If I had to describe this story in one word, it would be thrilling. So much tension was constantly built up, that I had to keep reading to see how characters got through yet another challenge. Personally, I adored the action-packed, if rather gruesome, tale. Despite the gory details, The Maze Runner is full of suspense and demonstrates trust and growth of characters. I became emotionally-attached to some characters, and even shed a few tears when they faced such devastating hardships. Overall, I found this novel to be quite addicting, suspenseful, and heartbreaking. It’s a must-read!
@ThePageDweller of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board

The Maze Runner is a novel with striking similarities to other Famous books such as The Hunger Games and Divergent. This enhances the book rather than making it seem like a cheap clone. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world Where governments have full and strict control over the people. The protagonists are teenagers who are seeking to take back their freedom from their government. Their goal brings them at the brink of life and death many times throughout the book. The main character Thomas as well as several other kids are trapped in a maze and must find a way to escape. Solving the maze would be bad enough, the walls of the maze move every night so the layout of the maze changes everyday. The book is action packed all around and delivers many twists and turns throughout its story. The hunger games may be the book with all the action but the maze runner has a nice mystery setting about it. The Maze Runner book as well as its accompanying movie are both excellent. Id rate this book a 5/5.

For the first time, he felt something for Chuck that made him so angry he wanted to kill somebody. The boy should be in school, in a home, playing with neighbourhood kids. He deserved to go home at night to a family who loved him, worried about him. A mom who made him take a shower every day and a dad who helped him with his homework.
Thomas hated the people who'd taken this poor, innocent kid from his family. He hated them with a passion he didn't even know a human could feel. He wanted them dead, tortured, even. He wanted Chuck to be happy.
But happiness had been ripped from their lives. *Love* had been ripped from their lives.

The maze runner invokes the gripping tale of several teenagers who arrive in the middle of a giant labyrinth via lift, with no memory on how or why they got there. Our main lead features a teenager named Thomas, who's a newcomer to the eerie situation. But between these teenagers, they only suffer one goal, and that's to escape. You'll have to read the book if you want to see whether they escape or not! The plot only thickens, and the tension of some scenes put you at the edge of your seat! I've read this book three times, and not once has this book ever disappointed me. If you happen to enjoy it, consider reading the sequels!

*Some spoilers* Crazy whacked out idea but I loved the wild ride of reading this story. So many twists and unexpected revelations in the book. The main character is trying to find answers to who the good guys are and what has happened to his world as we try to figure it all out with him. It is set in the future where mankind needs saving from a horrible disaster that has turned humans into monsters. Now scientists use children to figure out how to save the human race. Great book!
