Baker & Taylor
After recovering from having a cancerous tumor removed from his leg, Cody tries out for the soccer team and makes it as a sub, but when he becomes the team's main scorer he does not know if he is healthy enough to handle the extra play time.

Orca Book Publishers
Soccer player Cody learns to believe in his team—and his own skill on the field.
Thirteen-year-old Cody is aching to get back onto the field. Last year he had a tumor removed from his leg. Though it’s a struggle, Cody tries out for the Lions and makes the team as a “super sub”—one of eleven players who jokingly named themselves that because they’re never allowed to play. Secretly, Cody is relieved, since he hasn’t told anyone on the team that he had cancer. But then there’s a shakeup in team management, and suddenly Cody and the super subs are the only players left. Cody has no choice now but to play, even if his leg does begin to hurt. At an end-of-season tournament it becomes clear that he and another player, Paulo, are close to being the perfect scoring duo. Without being aware of it, Cody has been holding himself back, striking with his left leg instead of his right. When he finally comes clean to his teammates about his disease and injury from the year before, they encourage him to trust his leg and his skill.

The book is about a kid with cancer in his leg named Cody. He is my favourite character. He joins a soccer league and gets bullied there. My favourite part is when Cody stands up to the bullies and they leave!

I really enjoyed this book and how it showed that you can't let bullying overcome your hobbies. Very inspiring.

I thought this book was very good and I thought the plot was amazing! I loved Striker because Cody never gave up and he never stopped trying even when he was put down, like when he was put on the "super subs".

Before Cody had cancer, he loved to play soccer. And now that the cancer is gone, he has finally convinced his parents to let him play in the local club, FC Lions. But there are some cheaters on the team, and Cody has to work extra hard to make the team. Will all this playing time be too much for Cody? Luckily Cody finds a friend in a boy who lives near him, Paulo, and Paulo can maybe help him through his journey to become a great soccer player.
